• To design an urn with a more positive and poetic approach to the funeral business. To challenge the old saying: From dust to dust” and turn it into: ”From Life to Life”

BACKGROUND

• Cremating is the most common way to bury our loved ones. Although there are a selection of companies who custom-made urns, we still face the challenge that the urn is buried into the ground, and therefore doesn’t leave much of a footprint.
• Our idea makes it possible to leave a mark where relatives and others can meet and look back.
• Taking into consideration that a forest that has been burned down is a very nutrient-rich basis for a new forest.
• Besides targeting human burials we see a huge potential in burials for our pets. But we need to focus on humans as first step.

IDEA

• The invention provides an urn that is biological decomposable, while it at the same time is capable of providing a long lasting memory of the deceased.
• A burial urn where the lid is designed with a telescope comprising a receptacle for a growth media at the upper end.
• On top of the telescope there is a handle. The handle will facilitate the transportation of the urn and reduce the risk that the urn is accidental dropped into the grave (it happens often, sadly). Moreover, the handle may facilitate the lowering of the urn into a grave.
• The telescopic device is very suitable for guiding roots from a plant, e.g. roots from a tree down into the earth and down to the urn with the remains of the deceased.
• In that way the ashes from the deceased will give nutrition to the plant and in a way create life again

For this Easter Utopia Design have designed three new  packaging for handmade Easter eggs. We have had an ambition about relanch the Danish tradition with Easter letters with riddles. If you get an Easter letter and you can’t guess who sent it before Easter you need to give the sender chocolate.

Taking inspiration from visual image of the hot melted chocolate mixed with different ingredients we have designed a striped pattern for Konnerup & Co. The pattern can be adjusted to the type of chocolate that is in the packaging, and it can be adjusted to match diffrent seasons like Easter and Christmas.

We have designes two ound packagings for 9 and 18 eggs. And a childrens concept with 9 Easter eggs, complete with an Easter letter with riddles and an envelope.

The new concept was launched at Formland Spring 2012, were Utopia Design also contributed to the stand.

• It is going to be a VERY white Christmas this year! You can almost do anything with decoration and food, as long as you remember the white colour.
• Pillows are not hot if they are not decorated with a photography, preferably a motive from nature
• RETRO is still hot, especially the fifties, the sixties and the seventies (Mad Men is still an inspiration for designers all over the world)
• Fair Trade is growing. We customers want to know where things are coming from and that we can buy them with without feeling guilty
• Garden Gnomes are HOT
• Bright colours like pink, yellow, blue, lime green are used to create happiness and tend to try to make us forget about the challenges that we face regarding the financial situation
• Miniature patterns in different colours are everywhere, especially in the kids area and in the category for storage boxes
• Sets of shelves are designed to be flexible and fit into whatever room you need them
• Pink birds everywhere as lamps, as decoration and as part

Udfordring
I en stor del af verden er der mange unge mænd, der ikke kan se nødvendigheden i at bruge kondom. Ansvaret er overladt til pigerne.

Indsigt
Specielt for piger opleves det intimiderende at skulle købe kondomer i et supermarked eller på en benzinstation. Så intimiderende at de helt lader være.

Idé
Utopia Design udviklede et kondombrand, der i modsætning til almindelige kondomer blev solgt i små, smarte metaldåser med fashion-orienterede motiver med det formål at ændre hele indkøbsoplevelsen for yngre kvinder. Der er 16 forskellige designs der er inddelt i to kategorier: FEELING – mest henvendt til piger og PLEASURE – mest henvendt til drenge.

Resultat
Love-Box blev efter 2 år på markedet købt af det verdensomspændende firma Durex, som markedsfører Love-Box som mærket, der kan rekruttere unge ind i Durex brandet. I løbet af 2010 blev Love-Box i ca. 15 lande, hvoraf USA allerede er så begejstret for Love-Box at de har fundet vej til bla Walmart.
